Jimmie Johnson, NASCAR, Legacy Motor Sports

This NASCAR season has been pretty spicy! From cheating drama to some drivers being suspended, the overall 2025 season has not been for the weak! Of course, on top of all the hot tea, fame usually brings rumors and gossip anyway. Lately, a large chunk of the NASCAR fanbase and community have been wondering about one particular driver and if they will be retiring anytime soon. Some even think that this driver may even retire after Sunday’s race in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jimmie Johnson has the NASCAR world speculating about his possible retirement. Johnson is a seven-time Cup Series winner. Earlier this year, Johnson finished in third place at the Daytona 500. While it wasn’t first, it was still a great placement for the race. Johnson no longer races full-time; however, this weekend he will be driving at the Coca Cola 600. So, will this be his last race?

Johnson Addresses NASCAR Retirement Rumors

Johnson isn’t only a driver, but also the co-owner of Legacy Motor Club. Recently, he made it crystal clear that he will continue racing, even after this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series. While he was on the Rubbin’ is Racing podcast, he shut down rumors. This is what he had to say:

It really is just luck that the 700th start ends up at Charlotte and the track where I had my first start, I think we ran nine last year and once we started planning for this year in the Daytona 500, we realized 700 would be in Charlotte. I’m not a numbers guy, but I literally have not been paying attention to this. It would have been amazing to plan at being done at 700 or some element of, but that’s really not the case.

I hope I can get in the car a few more times this year if circumstances present themselves. And then next year and our evolution into a third car here at Legacy Motor Club. There’s an option there where I could help build the team and so, we’re looking at that as one of the many options which would then put me in the car a fair amount next year.

Now that we have clarity, do you think Johnson will end up in Victory Lane this weekend? Or, do you have your eyes set on another driver? We will see how Johnson does on the track tomorrow, and clearly, on other tracks in the future also!
