A mass shooting broke out during a house party in Catawba County in North Carolina. This reset the mass shooting tracker back down to zero days since the gun violence event in the United States. Local authorities responded when the shooting was reported at around 12:45 a.m. early this morning, Sunday, June 1, 2025. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Hickory Police Department responded to the call. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is also working with local authorities on this case.
Investigators reported that the shooting happened during a party with about 100 people attending. At this time, authorities have confirmed there were at least 12 people shot, leaving one person dead from their injuries. Another injured person is in critical condition at this time, and all of the victims are currently hospitalized. Officials have said the victims vary in age and that the shooting occurred at a home on Walnut Acres Drive. Multiple Shooters Possibly Involved in Mass Shooting
As of 3:30 p.m. ET (today), the authorities have not provided any information or details as to who they believe may be responsible for this shooting. The sheriff’s office is working to identify the motive as well as the person responsible. Some deputies believe there may have been multiple shooters, and at least 80 shots were fired. As of 4:00 p.m. today, shell casings were still being retrieved. This being said the number of shots could increase as the investigation continues.
Maj. Aaron Turk has openly confirmed that the shooting did happen at a party. While a neighbor who witnessed part of the incident stated it was a pool party, authorities have neither confirmed nor denied this. The one victim confirmed so far as dead from the shooting has been identified as Shawn Hood, who was 58 years old. Hood was pronounced dead at the scene, while one other in critical condition was taken to a Charlotte hospital. The other 10 are known to have serious injuries. Currently, this is an ongoing case.
