Malcom -Jamal Warner, who became famous for playing Theodore Huxtable on “The Crosby Show” has died of an accidental drowning. He was 54. Information out of Limon, Costa Rica, is that he was there on a family vacation. No other details were immediately made available.
Warner, Cosby Show Fame and Beyond
Born in New Jersey, Warner showed an early interest in acting, and his parents enrolled him in a performing arts school in New York City. Warner caught his big break when he signed on to play Bill Cosby’s character (Cliff Huxtable), only son on the now famous “The Cosby Show.” Warner, who was 14 at the time, starred on the show for its entire eight-year run, earning an Emmy nomination for his work. After “The Cosby Show” ended, he portrayed Malcolm McGee on the “Malcolm & Eddie” sitcom for four seasons.
He also starred opposite Eddie Griffin in the BET sitcom, “Reed Between the Lines” from 2011-2015. Other acting roles included playing Sticky on the FX drama “Sons of Anarchy,” Showtime’s drama “Jeremiah,” as well as appearances on “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Community.” He also lent his voice to the animated television series, “The Magic School Bus,” playing the Producer.
Other Work and Family
Warner took a turn directing the 1992 educational video, “Time Out: The Truth About HIV, AIDS and You, which talked about the disease and offered tips on preventing its spread. Aresenio Hall and Magic Johnson starred in the video. He also won a Grammy in 2015 for Best Traditional R&B Performance alongside Robert Glasper Experiment featuring Lalah Hathaway for the song Jesus Children. And in his last project, he hosted the podcast “Not All Hood,” whose latest episode aired just 3 days ago.
Extremely private about his personal life, Warner is survived by his wife and daughter, born in 2017. While he has shared photos of them both on social media, their identities have remained private.
