You have to hand it to Speaker of the House Little Mikey Johnson. He will do anything he can to protect his lord and master, Donald J. Trump. With time ticking before the month-long Congressional recess, the heat was getting a little hot in the Jeffrey Epstein kitchen for the president. Never fear, Little Mikey is here!
In Speaker Johnson’s mind, the House shouldn’t subject Mr. Trump to any more scrutiny or stress just for a budget or land management hearing or two. C’mon, where are your priorities, fellow representatives? With the walls closing in on the president from both the left and the right, Little Mikey had to step in and put out the fire. Good boy, Little Mikey!
When the Going Gets Rough, Johnson Makes a Fast Exit
So, today, Speaker Mikey Johnson adjourned the U.S. House until September. He decided this upon hearing that one of his favorite MAGA House committees was circling the wagons to probe deeper into the Epstein scandal. With bipartisan support, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted on Tuesday to subpoena convicted sex offender and Epstein’s partner in crime, Ghislaine Maxwell, to appear before the committee to spill her beans about what she knows about Epstein and his infamous “list.”
This move was precipitated by pressure from Republicans over the administration’s handling of the Epstein case. In fact, a Republican, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), sent the request over to Committee Chairman James Comer to issue the subpoena for Ms. Maxwell to appear before the committee to expose what she knows about the situation. Well. Little Mikey Johnson was all in a tizzy about this development. What was he to do? His ruler and king, Donald, wouldn’t approve of this at all.
The Trump administration, trying to head this off at the pass, dispatched Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to inform the committee that the Department of Justice had begun coordinating with Maxwell’s attorney about setting up a meeting. Blanche said about the situation.
“This Department of Justice does not shy away from uncomfortable truths, nor from the responsibility to pursue justice wherever the facts may lead. Therefore, at the direction of Attorney General Bondi, I have communicated with counsel for Ms. Maxwell to determine whether she would be willing to speak with prosecutors from the Department. I anticipate meeting with Ms. Maxwell in the coming days.”
Controversy Continues Unabated
And do you think this action calmed the storm? Not on your life. Mikey Johnson still had problems. The House Rules Committee, dubbed the “Speakers Committee,” was going to convene a busy agenda of land management issues. However, they were unable to finish the work due to threats by Democratic lawmakers calling for the House to bring to the floor a resolution to compel the Justice Department to release the Epstein files.
The president has even attempted to get the transcripts of Florida grand jury hearings from the mid-2000s, related to potential criminal offenses by sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, unsealed. A federal judge denied the administration’s request. However, even before the judge’s denial, MAGA nation determined that this action would not quell their search for the truth. They want the entire government cover-up exposed; nothing else will satiate them.
Johnson Pulls the Plug
With Johnson backed into a corner, what was he to do? Not doubt after a gentle call from the White House, the Speaker decided that flight was better than fight. A self-preservation move if nothing else. He said about the adjournment:
“We’re done being lectured on transparency and endless efforts to politicize the Epstein investigation. We’re not going to play political games with this. There’s no purpose for the Congress to push an administration to do something they’re already doing,”
