The Buffalo Bills are coming off a tough end to their season once again. After another loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo hasn’t been able to get over the hump despite having one of the best players in the league in Josh Allen. With the Bills continuously running into the same wall, eventually, something’s got to give. They made a few potential splash moves this past offseason. We’ll dive into them, but first, let’s recap how last season went.
Buffalo Bills’ 2024-2025 Season Recap
Last year was much of the same for the Bills. A dominant regular season for the “Mike Tyson” of the NFL. Year in and year out, this team has the ability to dominate most of the league. Buffalo ended with a 13-4 record and the number two seed in the AFC.
Josh Allen would go on to win his first MVP award after putting up many MVP-esque seasons. The Bills would go on to defeat the Denver Broncos in the Wild Card Game and the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round. In the AFC Championship, they would fall to the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs for the third time in four years.
Offseason Losses
One of the most interesting losses was Edge Von Miller. Miller was released, which was interesting after the Bills gave him a six-year $120 million contract in 2022. He would only play in 36 of the possible 51 games during his tenure. S Micah Hyde would retire during the offseason. Hyde had been one of the more reliable players in Buffalo and a locker-room leader. And CBs Kaiir Elam and Rasul Douglas were traded away.
Let’s dive into the skill position players they lost. After trading for WR Amari Cooper, he wasn’t brought back by the team. WR Mack Hollins, a physical freak of an athlete, left the team in free agency to join the New England Patriots. This team has always been on the brink of getting back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1994. Some of the pieces lost may be additions by subtraction.
Offseason Additions
After releasing Miller, the Bills needing help on the defensive line signed Joey Bosa. Bosa has the talent to be a great pass rusher, but injuries have kept him off the field throughout his career. He isn’t the only former Charger the team brought in. They signed Joshua Palmer to give Allen another weapon. Palmer has been a talented slot receiver for many seasons. I am excited to see what he can do in Buffalo.
Most of their moves were on defense, though. On top of the Bosa signing, they picked up DT Larry Ogunjobi. The only flaw of this defense last year was its ability to stop the run. They were 13th in rushing yards allowed per game. Not only did they improve their defense in free agency, but the Bills also used their first five draft picks on the defensive side of the ball. With their first pick, Buffalo drafted CB Maxwell Hairston, a talented DB with great speed and ball skills. He ran the fastest 40-yard dash at the combine this past year, 4.28.
Opinions on Offseason Moves
I love their moves. This franchise has been on the edge for the past five seasons. It all comes down to the postseason. When Josh Allen is your quarterback, you instantly have a top ten, and arguably top five offense. This team has been a dominant regular-season team, that is not good or great, but still dominant. With the Bills loading up on defense, I expect this has the potential to be the best defense of the Allen era.
Final Thoughts
The Buffalo Bills have been in the “Super Bowl Bubble” for the past four seasons. Outside of Chiefs Kingdom, we all want to see the eventual outcome of this team getting over the hump. These additions, in revamping the defense and adding a few lovely pieces on offense, can put this team over the top. I am excited to see what the future has in store for the Bills.
