Niantic, Pokémon Go, Nintendo

Like most games that don’t focus on a single-player story, Pokémon Go has seasons. Like Fortnite, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Overwatch, Apex Legends, and others, there are seasons marked by a change in content or available rewards. When it comes to Niantic’s hit mobile game, it’s both. A new season, Tales of Transformation, is coming in the very near future. Today, the team revealed exactly what trainers can expect when the season changes next month.

The new season of Pokémon Go will begin on September 2 at 10 am local. It will continue until December 2 at 10 am local time, so it won’t quite be the last season of 2025. The highlight is the return of Keldeo, the Mythical Pokémon, and the arrival of its Resolute Form. For the first time in Pokémon Go, you can change forms at the end of the season. Trainers can also encounter Keldeo thanks to a special research, though trainers who already got it long ago (for $7.99) will get candy instead. The candy is going to be used to power up Keldeo, not to transform it, so you can use the candy whenever you get it.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is coming out during this season (October 16), so it is very fitting that this season will also highlight Mega Pokémon. Mega Sharpedo, Camerupt, and Metagross will make their debut in Go this season. There will be several Mega Raid Days hosted throughout Tales of Transformation, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get the required Mega Energy to briefly change your Pokémon’s form. It doesn’t last forever, though.

Dipplin, Hydrapple, and more will also debut this season, adding to the transformation theme for Applin. Gigantamax Garbodor, Dynamax Duraludon, and more will also become available through raids. As of now, only one of this season’s Community Day events has been confirmed: Flabebe on September 14. Two others will take place, but the featured Pokémon has not yet been announced. After the one in November, the December Community Day will rerelease all the ones trainers might’ve missed.

From August 25 at 1:00 pm PT to October 14, 2025, at 11:59 pm local, several bonuses will be active and will stack with other bonuses:

  • 2× Catch XP from Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws
  • +3,000 XP from winning raids
  • +3,000 XP from winning Max Battles

Trainers can also get some research to acquire up to seven million XP, so it is a great time for leveling up. Completing Field Research during this season will reward you with encounters for Alakazam (possible shiny), Aggron (possible shiny), Sinistea, Morpeko, Dreepy, and Frigibax (possible shiny).

There are also some interesting Pokémon available in 2km, 5km, 7km, and 10km eggs, such as Wynaut, Chingling, Riolu, Magby, Hisuian Qwilfish, Hisuian Voltorb, Absol, and Druddigon. All Pokémon from eggs (at least the ones currently announced on Pokémon Go’s website) can be shiny this season.

Additionally, and this is perhaps the biggest change, Pokémon Go is increasing the maximum level. Trainers can now level up all the way to 80, with various rewards available at every stop. Previously, the level cap was 50, so this gives trainers who have been there for a while a chance to move up some more.

Conclusion

It’s always a good time to take up and play Pokémon Go, but this new season is especially exciting. With all the events and potential shiny Pokémon available for the next few months, it’s a great time to get out and go walking to see what Niantic has in store for everyone.
