Dallas ICE Facility Shooting

A shooting occurred on Wednesday morning, September 24, 2025, at an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas. Authorities have confirmed two victims have died and one other is injured. The suspected gunman, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, is confirmed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Shooting in Dallas

The Dallas police department responded to a call just before 7 a.m. The gunman has yet to be identified as the investigation is ongoing, but authorities said they would hold a press briefing later today. “The preliminary investigation determined that a suspect opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building,” the Dallas police said in a statement. “Two people were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene. The suspect is deceased.”

The injured victims from the ICE facility were transported to the Parkland hospital to be treated, but the spokesperson for the hospital has not commented on their conditions. Many officials have taken to social media, X specifically, to confirm details and express the horror of the situation.

Kristi Noem, the Department of Homeland Security secretary, confirmed the suspected shooter died by suicide and further details would be released as they emerge. However, she said multiple injuries and fatalities were a result of the shooting at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office.

Officials React to Violence

While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them,” Noem said. “It must stop.” While Noem is correct, no motive will be appropriate enough because there is no sense behind gun violence. We must also acknowledge and remember that this agency has inflicted more unprecedented violence on the community than what occurred today. Additionally, no violence was inflicted against ICE agents during this unforeseen shooting.

According to law enforcement officials, two of the victims were detainees. The acting ICE director, Todd Lyons, informed the public that the “scene is secure” and the three victims who were shot were taken to the hospital. Another spokesperson confirmed no official agents were injured or killed in the midst.

JD Vance also chimed in similarly to Noem, stating the shooting was an “obsessive attack on law enforcement” that “must stop”. He added, “I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”

Thankfully, one official is acknowledging the lives that were lost or were nearly taken from them. Ted Cruz, the Texas senator, wrote on X that he and his team are “praying for the swift recovery of those injured, and we are deeply grateful to the brave first responders who rushed to the scene.” The FBI agency also said they are  “fully engaged, in conjunction with our state and federal law enforcement partners, at the crime scene in Dallas.

Timeline of Events

Around 6:30 a.m., police responded to a call at the 8100 block of North Stemmons Freeway regarding a suspected shooting. At approximately 7:15 a.m., dozens of police units and several ambulances were seen at the ICE facility off I-35E near Empire Central. Shortly after, one victim was confirmed dead, and three to four others were critically injured. However, the total number of fatalities and injuries is unclear. The police identified the shooter as a white male, armed with a rifle, who shot himself in the head as agents approached him.

I-35E was closed in both directions just after 8 a.m., and FBI Dallas officers arrived at the scene. Around this time, many officials began posting to X, including Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Attorney General Ken Paxton, U.S. President JD Vance, and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. They all posted their thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families while simultaneously adding that violence against ICE agents must stop.

At 9 a.m., officials were able to confirm that no ICE agents were injured or killed during the shooting. The only ones who fell victim were detainees. The Fort Worth police said the shooting was disturbing and unnecessary, as all shootings should be considered. The FBI released further details that the shooter was on the roof of the law firm building behind the ICE facility and opened fire into an unmarked van that was transporting detainees.

The Investigation

The investigation is ongoing, and a press conference will be held sometime later today. DHS reported that the shooting was an attack on ICE agents. They concluded this from a bullet shell casing that had “ANTI-ICE” written in blue ink. Once again, the right is using this as an excuse to blame the left for political violence.

However, the suspect’s older brother told NBC that he did not think the suspect was politically interested, nor did he mention his feelings on political issues. All officials know at this time is that the suspect was registered as independent and last voted in November 2024.
