TRUMP

I watched with interest as President Donald Trump delivered a speech before the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday in New York. U.N. protocol is such that each speaker is asked to keep their remarks to no more than 15 minutes due to the busy agenda and the number of world leaders scheduled to address the assembly. Trump, being the rule breaker that he is, blew through the five-minute warning and proceeded to bore, address the body for almost an hour. And what an hour it was.

In his own obnoxious way, Trump did not just provide updates to the visiting dignitaries about the state of the United States and his accomplishments that have made it the greatest country in the world by far. Are you kidding? It’s Trump. No, he proceeded to tell these august world leaders what was wrong with their countries and that if they continued their ways, their countries would be hellish places to live. And the two biggest problems confronting the world may surprise you.

Trump Warns the World About Immigration

The first grievous ill that is destroying the world is immigration. According to Mr. Trump, member nations’ borders need to be closed to prevent widespread crime, the shrinking of their social safety net, and the loss of jobs to foreign nationals.

Trump said in part.

“The number one political issue of our time: the crisis of uncontrolled migration. It’s uncontrolled. Your countries are being ruined. Proud nations must be allowed to protect their communities and prevent their societies from being overwhelmed by people they have never seen before with different customs, religions, with different everything.

Where migrants have violated laws, lodged false asylum claims, or claimed refugee status for illegitimate reasons, they should, in many cases, be immediately sent home. And while we will always have a big heart for places and people that are struggling and truly compassionate, answers will be given.”

Of course, Mr Trump failed to reveal the likely result of his disastrous isolationist polices. With the birth rate in the United States plunging and the tightening of our borders, our country is already experiencing a monumental brain drain, where some of the greatest minds in science, technology, and other fields are either being persecuted and prosecuted, or denied re-entry into the U.S.

And that’s not even taking into account the potential loss of millions of foreign-born workers’ jobs in agriculture, manufacturing, hospitality, and other industries that form a huge bulk of the American labor force. The effect of these policies is already lessening the United States’ ability to compete in the global marketplace.

This is due to labor shortages and reduced numbers of qualified individuals working in the science, technology, medical, and other fields. And his new mandate, which charges a $100,000 fee for a H1-B worker visa program application, which allows U.S. employers to hire foreign professionals for “specialty occupations” that typically require a bachelor’s degree or higher, could be the death knell for the U.S. technology industry.

Climate Change?

The other problem dragging down the rest of the world, according to the president is their ridiculous obsession with climate change science. But before I get into what Mr. Trump had to say about the issue, let’s review what U.N. Secretary General António Guterres had to say about the climate crisis as he welcomed the world’s leaders to the assembly.

“Fossil fuels are a losing bet. We should urge faster investment in renewables, stronger national climate pledges, and more finance for vulnerable nations. “Science says limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees is still possible…but the window is closing.”

Now, here’s President Trump’s perspective on energy, the environment, and climate change,

“It’s the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world, in my opinion. Climate change, no matter what happens, you’re involved in that. No more global warming, no more global cooling. All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons, were wrong. They were made by stupid people. But of course, their countries’ fortunes, and given those same countries, no chance for success. If you don’t get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail.”

To call the president a climate change denier is the most gross understatement of all time. His opinion completely differs from the U.N. Climate Action declaration, which states. “Burning fossil fuels generates greenhouse gas emissions that act like a blanket wrapped around the Earth, trapping the sun’s heat and raising temperatures.” As I say about Trump and his minions, “don’t let the truth get in your way when making policy statements.”

Tidbits

Along the way, Trump used the speech to criticize the U.N. for having an escalator stall (the president’s videographer hit the stop button), a faulty teleprompter (operated by White House staff), and not accepting his cost-saving bid on the 2001 U.N. renovation project (no record of a Trump Organization bid). So, it was another truthful day in the life of our 47th president.
