For the first time in three weeks, the Indiana Pacers have won a game. Their 114-112 win over the Charlotte Hornets marked their 7th win of the season, but it meant more than a typical win. Legendary head coach Rick Carlisle recorded his 1,000th win.
Pacers’ Snap Losing Streak
Indiana has been one of the worst teams in the NBA this season. For a team that was in the Finals last season, it has been a season from hell. However, most fans expected a subpar season with their superstar Tyrese Haliburton suffering a torn Achilles tendon in the Finals.
This win marked Rick Carlisle’s 1,000th win as a head coach in the league. This is a historic achievement. Only 10 coaches have reached this mark before tonight. He has been stuck on 999 wins since December 8th, when they defeated the Sacramento Kings 116-105.
Nail-biting Win
Winning any game on the road is clutch, but the fashion in which they did it was something else. Pascal Siakam would hit the go-ahead layup with 11.5 seconds to play. As the Hornets’ coach was trying to call a timeout, TJ McConnell would steal the inbounds pass, which would almost be the nail in the coffin.
Ben Sheppard would come in and try to put the game away with a pair of free throws for the Pacers. He would go 1/2 from the line, and Charlotte would call a timeout with a chance to tie or win. LaMelo Ball, who had a game-high 33 points off the bench, passed to Collin Sexton, who would take an 18-foot jumper, but would come up short. An airball that would seal the deal for the Pacers.
Final Thoughts
