There’s a reunion in Kansas City. The Chiefs are hiring Eric Bieniemy as their new offensive coordinator, a surprise to almost no one. He was their OC from 2018 to 2022, when Patrick Mahomes became the full-time starter, until he joined the Washington Commanders for a season. With Bieniemy’s return to KC, could we see the light show return? Let’s dive into the hire.
Chiefs Reunite With Bieniemy
An old face returns to KC and with it, potential old success. With the Chiefs bringing back former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, their high-flying offense could be back. We saw Patrick Mahomes have his best statistical seasons under Bieniemy. Now it’s a tricky spot because we know Andy Reid calls plays in KC, but I do believe that he brings a different flavor to the offense.
When you have a great play caller, it doesn’t hurt to have another voice or brain in the room. When Bieniemy was on their staff, this offense was one of the best we have ever seen. In points per game, they ranked 1st, 5th, 6th, 1st, 3rd, and 1st, that’s high power. With KC missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014, they have a top-ten pick in this year’s NFL Draft. With a strong offseason and a blue-chip prospect out of the draft, this offense is right around the corner from being one of the best in the league again.
Final Thoughts
This is a great hire for KC. Now there are other issues that the team needs to address. Things such as their weapons, and then there’s Mahomes’ injury rehab, which needs to go smoothly for him to be ready for the opening week of the season.
