The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making improvements from within the division. They are hiring Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson to fill the OC vacancy. Taking him away from ATL is kind of hilarious when you think about it. Falcons hire Kevin Stefanski, and the Buccaneers steal his offensive coordinator. Let’s dive into the hire!
Buccaneers Hire Zach Robinson as OC
Baker Mayfield has a new OC again. With the Buccaneers taking Robinson from Atlanta, this marks his 10th offensive coordinator in his nine-year NFL career. Can he finally get some consistency? It seems like every season, Baker is learning a new offense. To maintain his production when learning new offenses year in and year out is something very few could do.
Zac Robinson made his mark when he became the Los Angeles Rams’ assistant QB coach back in 2019. He then made his way up the chains to the passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach for LA from 2022 to 2023. Robinson would find his way to the Falcons to call plays these past two seasons. In 2024, their offense was great in terms of yards, but scoring was another thing. This past year, Atlanta finished in the top half in yards, passing yards, rushing yards, rushing attempts, and touchdowns.
Is This A Good Hire?
It’s a solid hire. I don’t think it’s one of the best on the market, but it’s solid. We saw the success Robinson had with Kirk Cousins and the limited success with Michael Penix Jr. Where I believe this will benefit the Buccaneers the most is in the running game. I expect Bucky Irving to have a massive season next year. Bijan Robinson is a great player, but Zac Robinson played a role in the team’s success.
Final Thoughts
If I were a Bucs fan, I wouldn’t have let Mike McDaniel leave the facility. He would have been a perfect fit with their weapons. However, Robinson has all the tools to help Tampa return to a high-powered offense. What do you think of the hire?
