Daredevil: Born Again, Disney, MCU

Daredevil: Born Again was the continuation of the Netflix show, this time on Disney+. It is its own standalone show, but it picks up immediately after the third season of the original and carries forward some storylines and plenty of characters. You may be thinking that the first season of the show is not that old.

You’d be correct. It premiered on March 4 on Disney+, and it received solid reviews. It didn’t reach the critical acclaim of the Netflix show, but 8.1 on IMDb, 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 3.79 on Serializd are all solid scores. Already, the second season is nigh.

It’s coming out much sooner than you’d expect since the last episode aired on April 15, and the first trailer for the new season is officially here.

On March 24, the second season of Daredevil: Born Again will air on Disney+. It is, like the first season, expected to be a weekly release instead of a bingeable drop. The initial date was March 4. However, quietly, Disney removed that date from all promotional material, and the new trailer reveals why. It was slightly delayed.

The new trailer showcases Matt Murdock and Karen Page living together in the wake of last season’s events, but of course, tragedy strikes. Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin, is still the mayor of New York City, and he’s still bent on making Daredevil, who he knows is Matt Murdock, suffer. Bullseye, who went to prison at the beginning of the first season for the murder of Foggy Nelson, returns and is out of jail.

Jessica Jones is back as well. She was part of the Netflix universe with The Defenders and her own show, and she’s back to help Matt out in Season 2. In Season 1, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher returned, and now in Season 2, Krysten Ritter is back as Jones.

Recently, Luke Cage actor Mike Colter hinted at a possible return, saying he’d love to come back and that it’s not impossible at this time. If Daredevil: Born Again continues on for a third season, perhaps Colter could return as Cage and fill the role that Bernthal and Ritter have for the first two seasons.

Curiously, Foggy is seen in the trailer. It’s unclear if he’s going to come back to life (which would fit within the wider MCU but not fit with the tone of either Daredevil series) or if it’s a flashback. The latter is much more likely. Other than that, precious little was revealed about the plot, but one can bet it’ll be a battle for the soul of New York and for the soul of our hero as he fights with Bullseye, who killed his friend, and his nemesis, Kingpin.

This is the first real promotion for the season, so it wouldn’t be a shock if more came out. One trailer for the new season of one of Disney’s biggest shows right now would be surprising. However, the new season does arrive in less than two full months, so there’s not much time for anything more. This may be the only look we’re going to get.

Conclusion

Daredevil is one of the best shows of all time, and Daredevil: Born Again did a pretty solid job of bringing it back to life and connecting it to the wider MCU. In fact, several MCU shows, namely Hawkeye and Echo, have done a lot of work to make it all connect. Season 2 appears to be continuing that and advancing the exciting plot that played out in Season 1.
