Todd Monken, NFL, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens

The Cleveland Browns’ search for a new head coach has ended. They are hiring the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator, Todd Monken, to fill the void after firing Kevin Stefanski. With Monken already being familiar with the AFC North, this is an interesting hire. Let’s dive into it.

Browns Hire Monken

With Cleveland hiring Monken, that means they will have their 13th head coach since 2000. That is horrendous by the organization. However, they are bringing in someone who has had regular-season success as a coordinator and was with their team back in 2019. Monken has spent the past three seasons with the Ravens, and their offense has been great, outside of last year.

Is This a Good Hire?

It’s a solid hire. I don’t know how he will pan out. The Browns’ new head coach will turn 60 in February, and this will be his first HC opportunity in the NFL. It’s interesting that this is his first bite at the top coaching position. With the success he had in the regular season coaching Lamar Jackson, maybe he can mold Shedeur Sanders into a potential high-end NFL starter. On the bright side, the roster doesn’t have many holes to fill. It’s not the best, but they are solid quarterback play away from being a perennial playoff contender.

Final Thoughts

When the news broke, my immediate reaction was, “Good for Monken.” The longtime coach finally gets his chance to be a head coach in the league. He’s been coaching in general since 1989. This is an interesting spot to get your first bite of the steak. What do you make of the hire, and how will this impact Shedeur next season?
