Jesse Minter, Baltimore Ravens, NFL

The Baltimore Ravens found their new head coach. They are hiring former Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to fill their head coaching vacancy. This isn’t Minter’s first time with the Ravens, though. He was the team’s defensive assistant and defensive back coach from 2017 to 2020. Let’s delve deeper into this hire!

Ravens Hire Minter

The Ravens are bringing back a familiar face, Jesse Minter, to replace John Harbaugh after a disappointing season. Minter’s defensive mind has built up quite a reputation since his first stint in Baltimore. It’s sort of funny because he’s gone from being a coach under John Harbaugh to being under his brother, Jim Harbaugh, for the past four seasons, two at Michigan and the previous two with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Over the past two seasons, his defense has been one of the best in the NFL. In 2024, they ranked 1st in points allowed, 1st in rushing TDs allowed, 7th in passing yards allowed, and 8th in interceptions. Last year, they were arguably better, ranking 9th in points, 7th in takeaways, 8th in rushing yards allowed, 5th in passing yards, 3rd in passing TDs allowed, and 3rd in interceptions. There’s an argument to be made that they’ve been the best defense in the league.

Is This a Good Hire?

This is a perfect hire. His previous experience in the AFC North is more valuable in this division than maybe any other in the NFL. Minter will continue to bring Baltimore’s hard-nosed, defensive-first mentality. The roster is talented enough to contend for the division and potentially a Super Bowl.

Final Thoughts

As a Steeler fan, I am a little nervous that the Ravens signed a great coach. Objectively, this is what the doctor ordered for Baltimore. What do you think of the hire? Do you think that Jesse Minter can propel this team and Lamar Jackson back to the playoffs and contend for a Super Bowl?
