Steal the Brainrot, Roblox

Roblox is one of the most popular games played today. Unlike many others, this is largely because of all the other miniature modes within it. You can pretty much play anything and everything within the sandbox game. It’s like Fortnite, but at least Fortnite is still dominated by Battle Royale. Imagine if Battle Royale were no more popular than BedWars, Festival, or Murder Mystery,

Steal The Brainrot, ironically, is one of Roblox’s most popular minigames, and it got a recreation within Fortnite. It was so prominent that Creative mapmakers decided to make their own version within Fortnite. Now, in news that’s going to sound utterly fake, Steal The Brainrot is getting a live-action movie.

Steal The Brainrot Roblox Mode to Get Live-Action Movie

I have written at length about all the different video game adaptations that have and will come out in the future. The video game adaptation is quickly supplanting the comic book movie. There are tons of good ones out now and planned for the future, but there are still some really bad misfires.

If it’s a popular video game, it’s likely to get an adaptation. Look at God of War, Fallout, Halo, and Call of Duty for good examples. Apparently, if it’s a popular minigame within a video game, it is also subject to the adaptation frenzy.

Steal The Brainrot, which is a minigame inside Roblox, is reportedly up next. Steal The Brainrot is not something most people over the age of 30 will have any concept of, so I’m going to try my best to explain it while not really getting it, either.

In this mode, you can buy, generate income from, and steal character-based “Brainrots” from other players. These brainrots come from the viral “Italian Brainrot” meme, including characters like Tung Tung Sahur, Ballerina Cappuccina, and Tralalero Tralala. They were AI-generated random characters with random names assigned.

The meme took off, and the game mode centered on them did, too. It reached over 25 million concurrent users at its peak. The gameplay involves defending your base, stealing, and using items to increase cash flow as you continue to upgrade and try to stay alive. It’s as outrageous as it sounds.

It’s also as simplistic as it sounds, which makes it really hard to envision a movie being made based on the mode. Is it just going to be characters fighting for brainrot like in the game mode? Why is it live-action? Is this really what we’re doing?

A further and perhaps better question is how worrisome it is that there is a movie being made that involves purely AI characters. AI has no place in film, despite how tech companies would like to envision the future, so what’s the general feeling about making a movie that has such a clear connection to AI characters? Even if they’re not AI-generated in the movie, they still came directly from generative AI.

Not much is known outside of it being made, and that the creators of the game mode in Roblox are going to be involved with the film. That may or may not be solely because neither Sony nor any filmmaker would have a good idea about how to approach this. It’s also unclear who asked for this, but I digress.

Conclusion

While the video game adaptation is still relatively new, at least in terms of actual quality productions and not shameless ripoffs designed to capitalize on the game’s name, they may have jumped the shark already. Adapting Steal The Brainrot from Roblox is about as wild as it can possibly get, and it’s one of the most shocking announcements from this trend of video game movies.
