Fallout Season 2 just ended. Bethesda and Amazon are hoping to turn around Season 3 much faster than the roughly 21 months between Seasons 1 and 2. They’re aiming to start filming Season 3 in May, which is a rapid turnaround from the end of Season 2.

Season 2 did an excellent job in furthering the plot points set in Season 1, adding new lines and new mysteries to spice things up. A lot has been resolved or at least made clear at this point, but there is still plenty we don’t know and are, quite frankly, dying to know.

What We Still Want to Know About Fallout After Season 2

5. How did Cooper’s family know he was alive?

The biggest twist in Fallout Season 2 was that Cooper Howard’s family was not in the vault they were supposed to be. The cryochambers were empty despite being locked and with their names on them. The Ghoul sees a postcard referring to a trip he and his wife planned to take all those years ago, so he knows where they’ve gone.

But how did Barbara know he was alive? He’s been wandering for 200 years as a ghoul, which usually means death. And his exposure to the nuclear fallout should’ve killed him, too. For all she should know, he’s been long dead. Why would she leave a card for him, then?

4. Is the Ghoul truly alone?

The Ghoul told a super mutant that whatever he has to do, he has to do it alone. But that hasn’t been true. Since the beginning of the show, he’s more or less tagged along with someone. He was with Lucy for a while and then with Maximus for a bit. Now, he’s alone.

He’s headed to Colorado to find his family, but is he really going to go it alone? Robert House swore they had more business together, but The Ghoul seems ready to drop everything and set out on his own. His banter with other characters is the best part of the show, so it would probably behoove Fallout to give him a talking companion for this section of his journey.

3. Where does Maximus fit?

Maximus obviously fits with Lucy, so he has someone to be with now that he’s lost all connection to his past. But what is next for him? He is likely going to be antagonized by the Brotherhood of Steel since he tried to kill Quintus and defected.

Might he be a candidate to join the New California Republic? They saved him in his childhood and again from the Deathclaws when all was lost in New Vegas. His military-esque background would make him a good candidate if he wants to try to save Vegas from Caesar’s Legion.

2. What’s going to happen to Hank MacLean?

This is really more of a personal burning question, and it’s mostly because Kyle McLachlan is so good. But Hank MacLean wiped his own mind and is now essentially not the same character. Hank is, by default, dead. He has no other role unless he was faking it, but it seemed genuine.

What’s going to happen to him now? He’s likely going to wasteland it and die, but what will Lucy do with him? Might the Enclave want him back since he was such a big figure for them? What about his wife, Stephanie? Won’t she want him back? The answer to all this is probably a resounding no, but one can dream.

1. Why did Cooper Howard change his mind?

There are flashback moments in Season 2 that showcase how resolute Cooper Howard is in his anti-vault, anti-bomb stance. His wife is very much in support and is instrumental in bringing it all about, but he isn’t listening to her. He’s convinced she’s a monster, and he tells her as much. It’s one of the best moments of the entire season.

Later on, though, he’s seen kissing his wife and agreeing with her sentiments before handing cold fusion to the president. That ultimately ends the world, but he doesn’t know it at the time. What happened between those two scenes? How did Barbara convince him that she’s a good person and that doing this is the right thing? Why was he willing to be arrested and keep her role quiet when he had just called her a monster not long ago?

Conclusion

Some of these questions won’t ever be answered, but part of the allure of Fallout is the mystery it presents. Not every puzzle has a piece that fits perfectly, and that might just be what this show is. It still doesn’t stop me from wondering, though.
