Drake Maye, NFL, New England Patriots

The Patriots haven’t been to the big dance since 2019. To say they’ve been dying to get back to this spot is an understatement. From watching Tom Brady walk out the door and win a Super Bowl in Tampa to drafting Mac Jones and that fizzling out, it’s been a hell of a ride. Let’s dive into what a win tonight would mean for the Patriots!

Drake Maye Off to the Best Start to a Career?

You could make an argument that if the Patriots win tonight, this will be the best start to a quarterback’s career in NFL history. Think of how quickly the turnaround was. From being drafted 3rd overall just last season and winning four games to starting in the Super Bowl. Drake Maye has been excellent this season, finishing second in as close to an MVP race as we have ever seen, leading this team to 14 regular-season wins. It appears they have found their next franchise quarterback.

To believe that Maye would be this good this fast is an understatement. We know the history of drafting quarterbacks high and crossing your fingers on if he ends up being ” The Guy.” You never want to be the guy who replaces “THE GUY.” Mac Jones was set up to fail, and when New England needed a savior, Maye and Vrabel arrived to take them back to the promised land.

Mike Vrabel Enters Top Five Coaches

Mike Vrabel is just as much of a part of New England’s turnaround as Maye is. When he took the head coaching job for the Pats, we all looked around at the roster and thought, “This is going to work.” Could we have predicted that they would be this successful this fast? Absolutely not. However, if they win tonight, Vrabel will enter the top five of the NFL coaching hierarchy.

Patriots Become Best Franchise in the NFL

If the Patriots win tonight, that will be the franchise’s 7th Super Bowl victory, an NFL record. It’s currently a toss-up between the Pats and the Steelers in the argument for best franchise ever. With a win tonight, they are leaps and bounds above everyone else. From the gutters of misery and a 4-13 season, then with a snap of your fingers, a 14-3 season, and you’re representing the AFC in the Championship Game.

This is a testament to how quickly things can shift. If you get the head coach and quarterback right, everything else falls into place. Do they have the best roster? Nope. Well, what about their offensive skill players? Not even close. If this is as bad as the team will be moving forward, tell the rest of the NFL to watch out because it looks like there’s a new era of Patriots football.

FInal Thoughts

It seems like the Patriots were bad for all of two seconds, and they are back on top of the NFL’s mountaintop. As a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, it makes me mad, lol. They tormented my fandom for far too long, and finally, they were going to be bad and in the gutter. We all blink, and they appear to be running the league again. What do you think a win tonight means for the Patriots?
