Jonathan Greenard, NFL, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles

The rich get richer. It seems the Philadelphia Eagles are involved in every trade rumor. When it was reported that the Minnesota Vikings were fielding offers for the Pro Bowler, you had to believe that Howie Roseman had his name in the hat. Let’s dive into what the Eagles gave up and what this means for both teams.

Eagles Trade For Greenard

This is a great trade for Philly, considering what they just lost in free agency. Edge rusher Jaelen Phillips signed a four-year, $120 million contract with the Carolina Panthers in free agency. That left the Eagles needing a pass rusher. Philadelphia sent a third round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and a third rounder next year as well.

Greenard was also signed to a four-year, $100 million extension with Philly. He’s been a solid player since getting drafted back in 2020. This is a great “buy low” spot as well because Greenard is coming off his worst season in the past three years. In 2023-2024, he tallied 12.5 and 12 sacks, but only three in 12 games last season.

What Does It Mean?

For Philly, they bolster their defensive line. That was the biggest key to their team’s success when they were one of the best teams in the NFL. As for the Vikings, they weren’t going to pay him the money he was asking for, so you get two third-round picks for a player you were going to let walk anyway. A win/win for both teams.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this is a nice trade for both teams. It doesn’t move the needle one way or the other. A low-risk, high-reward trade, depending on how much you value third-round picks. What are your thoughts on the trade? Do you think that Greenard will return to his ’23-’24 self?
