WOW, the Los Angeles Rams are trading for the reigning defensive player of the year, Myles Garrett. It’s not a shock that they’re interested in one of the best players in the NFL; more shocking is that they got a deal done. Let’s dive into the trade and what it means for both teams!
Rams Trade For DPOY

The Rams’ philosophy of “F them picks” continues to reign supreme. They added the reigning DPOY, coming off the best season by any pass rusher. He broke the single-season sack record with 23 sacks last season. While LA is coming off an NFC Championship loss, they are taking one of the biggest swings by any team on the cusp of a Super Bowl. Here are the full trade details that have been reported:
- Los Angeles Rams: DE Myles Garrett
- Cleveland Browns: DE Jared Verse, 2027 1st-Round Pick, 2028 2nd round pick, & a 2029 3rd round pick
What Does it Mean for Both Teams?
For the Rams, this now makes a lot of sense as to why they drafted Ty Simpson in the NFL Draft. You give up next year’s first-round pick, which will be at the bottom of the first round in a quarterback-heavy class, for a player who should boost their pass rush in a major way. It’s not like they were bad at rushing the passer, but Garrett takes them over the top in that department.
Conversely, the Browns are in full rebuild mode. Shipping off their best player for future assets has all the writing on the wall of another terrible season. However, they had a good draft class, so that’s a positive note. When you’re bad, just accumulate as much talent as you can. Who knows, maybe in a loaded quarterback draft next year, they package those two first and move up to get their quarterback of the future.
Final Thoughts
My initial reaction was that the Rams overpaid, but Garrett is still only 30 years old and appears to be at the peak of his powers. Taking a step back and considering all the moving parts, this was a good trade for both sides. What were your thoughts on the trade? Does this mean the Rams are a lock to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl?
