Summer Game Fest

Summer Game Fest 2026 got gamers talking after announcing future titles and updates on both published and in-development games. The showcase was a rollercoaster of emotions filled with skepticism, low expectations, and high hopes. Host Geoff Keighley and hostess Lucy James dropped a couple of shocking reveals, both small and large. Out of the 26 participants, here are the top picks that took players for a ride.

Tupac Rejoins Snoop Dogg in Stranger Than Heaven

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios’ upcoming crime thriller Stranger than Heaven cast just got sentimental. The late hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur joins the 50-year interactive action flick. At the time of its reveal, some assumed Tupac was brought back using artificial intelligence and given the game its cash-grab icon alongside Snoop Dogg.

Snoop, who attended the Summer Game Fest stage alongside Stranger than Heaven’s director, Masayoshi Yokoyama, clarified how the “All Eyez on Me” rapper’s inclusion was made possible. He told Keighley and the stream’s viewers, “The Tupac estate, my son [Cordell Broadus], and myself, we worked closely together, so it just made sense to put his likeness in this game for his spirit to live on, and it felt like it was so connected with what we’re doing.”

Game Press further explained that the estate is Amaru Entertainment (formerly Amaru Records). Snoop had a deep connection with Tupac and his mother, Afeni Shakur, a former Black Panther activist. She founded the record studio in 1997 to preserve her son’s legacy and manage copyright labels. The “Gin and Juice” artist did go undergo complicated history over Tupac’s unreleased music with his label, Death Row Records.

When Afeni passed and rejoined her son in 2016, Snoop continued to cooperate with Amura Entertainment, which is run by music executive Tom Whalley and under legal contention of Tupac’s sister, Sekiywa “Set” Shakur. With their permission and supervision, RGG Studios has access to his archives to recreate his likeness.

“With the utmost respect for his legacy, crafting every aspect in close collaboration and without the use of [generative AI], including [Tupac’s] character design based on archival footage and photographs,” RGG responded to the public. The rapper’s likeness will be playing Stranger than Heaven’s Amaru, named after his middle name. More details on the voice actor will be revealed at a later date.

TMNT: The Last Ronin Adopted by Platinum Games

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles community is rejoicing after what felt like a game project got abandoned. Until Summer Game Fest 2026, TMNT: The Last Ronin will finally resume development. The 2023 game was previously handled under THQ Nordic’s Black Forest Games, the third-party studio that revived Destroy All Humans!.

Video Game Chronicles reported that the company suffered a layoff of over 900 employees in September 2023, forcing game production to halt. Publisher Paramount Games Studio notified fans that it was not the result of the SkyDance merger. The company has now passed the comic game adaptation to Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden 4’s developer, Platinum Games.

The representatives told TMNT fans, “Knowing how much fans were anticipating the game, Paramount Games Studio will continue development and opted for Platinum Games, as they stood out as a partner that truly understood the vision for The Last Ronin.”

GameSpot commented that TMNT: The Last Ronin could be a redemption for their previous collaboration with the licensed property. Platinum Games’ first game with the Turtles was Mutants in Manhattan, a failed 3D multiplayer 3D beat’em up. Now, they channel their violent combat into Michelangelo’s dark story.

Fumito Ueda Offers Sneak Peek on Gen Atlas

Back in The Game Awards 2024, Geoff Keighley was honored to introduce adventure RPG visionary Fumito Ueda’s next game, Project Robot. The Ico creator returns for Summer Game Fest 2026 with the game’s official title, Gen Atlas.

The latest trailer presents a lone cyborg traveling across an post-acolyptic planet. Their only companion is an operable robot’s head. It reminds me of Studio Trigger’s mech series, Gurren Lagann, when piloting it in the air. Players will be utilizing the robot’s head for transportation, shelter from the black wave, and connecting with the giant mech bodies.

Our mission as the lone cyborg is to explore the facility ruins and discover how the ever-changing sea created a hellscape. But be warned, something is hunting in the haboobs.

The Wolf Among Us Season 2 Finalize Release for 2027

“It’s been a long, long, long 8 years,” Keighley said to the viewers and the live audience. No one knew what to expect until the back of Fabletown’s sheriff appeared. You can audibly hear the gasp and happy cheers of the audience, as shown by DayOne.

Summer Game Fest 2026 became the day The Wolf Among Us returns for its second season. The last update gamers saw about the long-awaited sequel was back in 2022. Viewers witnessed Bigby Wolf rumble with Scarecrow and Tin Woodman in a motel. Between the fight scenes, Bigby is participating in an anger management group.

It was set for a 2023 release, but was later delayed to avoid development crunching as they moved to Unreal Engine 5 and refused to launch an unfinished product to the public. The return announcement trailer features Bigby and his new partner investigating the Oz Gang. They serve as the new operator of Fabletown’s corruption.

To celebrate The Wolf Among Us Season 2, the first season is set for a remastered version for modern consoles. This version is completely rebuilt, promising to repair the dialogue tree bugs, enhance visuals, and reduce framerate drops.

Tifa Lockheart’s SF6 Appearance Leads to Final Fantasy VII Revelation

While people expected Final Fantasy VII Revelation to make an appearance at the showcase, Capcom surprised fans with the Year 4 Fighter lineup. Two brand new fighters, Yasmine and Arjun, are joining the roster. Freeing himself from the campaign mode is Bosch, who acts as the Avatar’s rival and best friend.

But nobody has ever dreamed that Final Fantasy VII’s Tifa Lockheart would cross paths in Capcom’s mixed martial arts world. She shocked players and Square Enix fans when she uppercuts the Street Fighter VI logo.

She became the perfect transition for Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s Summer Game Fest presentation. This may convince Tekken players to pick up Street Fighter VI in early 2027. According to Reddit, Tifa has been requested for over a decade to have her Zangan-style implemented in the game.

Square Enix instead gave Bandai Namco Final Fantasy XVI’s protagonist, Clive Rosenthal. PC Gamer’s little joke is now reality when they commented, “Capcom has the chance to do the funniest thing ever.”

Resident Evil: Veronica Stole Summer Game Fest ’26

This announcement should have been saved as the last game for Summer Game Fest 2026. Geoff Keighley is somewhat of a cheeky boy for the arrangement. Resident Evil: Veronica is Capcom’s next remake for the RE franchise.

Players welcome back Chris Redfield’s sister, Claire. In the original game, she continues to search for Chris because he’s been missing since resigning from Raccoon City’s STARS Alpha Team. She does the same in the reimagined story of Code Veronica. There’s a more established passage of time after the pharmaceutical corporation Umbrella nuked the zombie-infested city.

“3 months have passed since the biological disaster in Raccoon City. Claire Redfield, having to survive alongside Leon S. Kennedy and Sherry Birkin, travels to France in search of her brother Chris Redfield.” The official page has confirmed that the journey will start on Rockfort Island. Players await to see more information about the changes to the original.
