The Atlanta Falcons are extending one of the cores of their offense. Tight end Kyle Pitts received a massive payday with a three-year, $54 million contract to stay with the team. He has been a player who has been up and down in terms of production through the first five seasons of his career. With the Falcons locking him up for the next three seasons, four total, what does that mean for the team and the tight end market?
Falcons Extend Pitts

The Atlanta Falcons are extending their second-team All-Pro tight end. Pitts was signed to the $15M franchise tag for TEs this past offseason. With the hopes of an extension in the air, both sides got together and worked out a deal that will make him the third-highest tight end in the NFL, behind George Kittle and Trey McBride.
The former 4th overall draft pick is coming off the best season of his career. He established career highs in targets (118), catches (88), and touchdowns (5). Pitts also racked up 88 catches during his 2025 campaign, the second highest in a season.
Is This an Overpay?
To this point, Kyle Pitts hasn’t lived up to his 4th overall draft pick status. He was the highest-drafted tight end in NFL history, coming out of Florida. With his unique frame and speed, the Falcons haven’t been able to utilize his skillset until this season.
I believe this is a good contract for the team and for Pitts. The team locks up a premier weapon for whoever starts the season under center, and the trade talks surrounding the Pro Bowl tight end get silenced. For now, at least.
Final Thoughts
With the numbers Kyle Pitts put up last season, there was no doubt in my mind that he would get an extension. I believe he is an excellent young tight end with talent that should continue his success after being named to the Second Team All-Pro last year. Do you think the Falcons overpaid for Pitts?
