As if it were needed, President Trump’s address to the American people last week should serve as a testament to the character and intent of this administration. His old, tired accusations of election fraud and unsecure ballots are the cries of a desperate, troubled old man. And, of course, when you go to the White House website to authenticate his claims, the information posted does not align with the president’s words.

So, instead of having a conversation with the American people about lowering food and fuel prices, how he is going to extract us from the mission-less war in Iran, or stop the ICE killings of innocent citizens, we get this baked-over crap. However, the real goal of Mr. Trump’s speech was to continue to plant the seeds of doubt about our election systems and their so-called “vulnerabilities “

Trump Spoke, But Only Lies Followed

I am not going to review the “lowlights ” of Trump’s televised address. It would just rehash nonsensical and debunked plots about China, President Obama, the Democrats, and Antifa banding together to steal the 2020 election from him. But he knows he lost the election. Before the January 6 violent attack on the Capitol, Pat Cipollone, the president’s then-White House Counsel, told him directly that he lost the election. His other top legal aide, Attorney General William Barr, confirmed Cipollone’s statement.

Trump even admitted himself that he lost the 2020 election. In an Aug 4, 2024, interview with podcaster Lex Fridman, Trump said this about the election. “He (Joe Biden) beat us by a whisker. It was a terrible thing.” He repeated this message on Aug 23 at an event at the Southern border.

And he mentioned it again on Aug. 30, when he spoke at the Moms for Liberty Summit. Even his daughter Ivanka testified to the Congressional Jan. 6 Committee that when Mr. Barr told her that her father had lost the election, she indicated that she believed him.

What’s Really Going On

Of course, most of this was subterfuge and part of his effort to commandeer the 2026 Midterm Elections. This is an ongoing attack by the Trump administration to prevent the Democrats from taking control of one or both bodies of Congress.

It started with the president calling on Republican-led states, like Texas, Florida, and North Carolina, to draw up redistricting plans to squeeze more Democrats out of safer congressional seats. Next, he watched as his chosen cronies on the Supreme Court gutted the remnants of the Voting Rights Act in an effort to disenfranchise BIPOC voters.

Trump and his Department of Justice have attempted to obtain state voter rolls to, in their words, “to root out any fraudulent voters.” This is a blatant attempt by the administration to interfere with what has traditionally been a state-by-state responsibility. Many states have fought back by saying that turning that information over to the feds could lead to identity theft, financial fraud, or harassment if the data is mishandled or leaked.

And then there is Mr. Trump’s precious Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which, according to the administration, would safeguard elections by requiring Americans to provide proof of citizenship, such as a passport or birth certificate, when registering to vote in federal elections.  But if you read the fine print, it would actually eliminate the ability of voters to use some common forms of identification such as school IDs and military service cards.

Estimates by the Brennan Center for Justice conclude that over 21 million Americans could lose their right to vote should the SAVE Act become law. The good news is that even Senate Republicans realize what a loser bill this is and have blocked floor hearings on it. Not to mention Mr. Trump’s assault on the mail-in ballot process, which has proven to be one of the most secure forms of voting.

Wake Up America

Does anyone need any more proof to demonstrate that this is the most demonic, narcissistic person to ever occupy the White House? Not only is he greedy and power-hungry, but he daily ignores the interests of everyday Americans. Not only doesn’t he try to address affordability, safety, and health care needs, but his policies actually make these problems worse. Wake up, America! You have a country to retake.
