Missing Woman

New video surveillance was released in accordance with the missing persons report filed for a North Carolina woman who was last seen with her friend on vacation on the Caribbean island of Grenada.

Missing Tourist in Grenada

Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, 44, is a physical therapist from Cary, North Carolina, and was vacationing with a friend in the capital, St. George, when she went missing. The two were sharing an Airbnb along the tropical resort neighborhood of Grand Anse, blissfully unaware of the tragedy yet to come.

Her family said Wednesday they saw surveillance footage from the rental property showing Waddell strolling around before her last assumed sighting. She was heading toward the beach at 11:45 a.m. local time, jumped off a jetty, and got in the water two minutes later.

Last Known Sighting

While Waddell swam, her friend was seen adjusting her chair below the trees, and Waddell returned to the camera view 19 minutes later and began walking toward Grand Anse beach around noon on July 22.

“I went out and did this swim yesterday,” Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, said. “It is easy. There are lots of rocks you can stop at if you need. The water is shallower near shore, where Liz could touch if she wanted, and the water is like a lake, not like ocean water we experience in North Carolina.”

The video footage shows the last known sighting of Waddell, but there were later reports of a group of jetskiers who allegedly interacted with a woman away from the shoreline at 5:30 p.m., which police are currently investigating.

“The police are working to connect with these people and determine a more precise location; they are also working to collect security footage from all Hotels along the Beach,” Cailen Waddell said.

Search Efforts

Waddell was last seen with her short blonde hair, wearing a loose burnt orange crop top and blue-and-white striped shorts. Her disappearance was first reported by the Royal Grenada Police Force on July 23, 2026, asking fishermen, boat operators, and coastal residents to keep an eye out for the missing woman.

Waddell’s loved ones launched a GoFundMe, a website, and a tip line to help push the efforts to locate her. Her husband, who is an operations manager for the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources in their home city, took no time to get down to the island to assist in the search for his wife.

Authorities Rule Out Foul Play

Over the last week, multiple friends and family members flew down for the search but have begun flying back now since local authorities ruled out foul play in her disappearance.

“Despite our exhaustive efforts, we have not been successful. After careful and thoughtful consultation with family, local authorities, the U.S. Embassy, and others here in Grenada, I join authorities in believing there was no foul play,” Cailen said.

Desperate for answers and to bring his missing wife home, he is continuing the search. “The missing person investigation into her disappearance will continue, and we are specifically hopeful to determine her actions between the time she was last seen on video and the time she was seen in the water around 5:30, as well as any further sightings. No detail is too small,” he said.

The U.S. State Department has acknowledged the citizen’s disappearance, and police ask that anyone with information about the missing woman’s whereabouts contact local authorities immediately.

A Traveling Free-Spirit

Waddell was on a three-week-long vacation with her friend, Heather, at the time of her disappearance. She is known for her adventurousness and love of travel. Her husband said she was “a loving free-spirit person,” and “could make friends with anyone and she often did.“

Her loved ones shared photos of her international travels with her husband and their adopted adult daughter, Suwan.
