New reports say that Sean “Diddy” Combs was placed in solitary confinement for his personal protection. As a result, the rapper’s release date has been moved up by one month to January 24, 2028, according to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons’ inmate records.
Prison Fight
Last week, Combs was moved to solitary confinement following an altercation at the low-security prison Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution in New Jersey. The fight allegedly stemmed from another inmate making a sly remark to Combs, but the institution said they would not provide further details.
“We are not at liberty to disclose or provide internal information pertaining to any inmate in our custody,” the prison spokesperson told TMZ in a July 24 statement. “Such information would not be available for the public domain.“
Charges and Sentencing
Despite the many allegations against the 56-year-old business executive for abuse, sexual assault, and more, he was solely convicted on July 2, 2025, on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was sentenced in October that year to 50 months in prison with a $500,000 fine for his crimes.
In late October, Combs was transferred from New York’s Metropolitan Detention Center following his conviction by a New York jury under the Mann Act and sent to New Jersey to serve the rest of his time.
Release Date
His original release date was May 8, 2028, at the time of his sentencing but has fluctuated many times since. It is assumed that with good behavior, time served, and participation in evidence-based recidivism reduction, his sentence is shortening.
However, in November 2025, his release date had been pushed back to June 2028 due to accusations that he had created and consumed alcohol behind bars, which his representatives deny. Ahead of his sentencing hearing, he submitted a letter to the judge saying he got sober in prison “for the first time in 25 years,” started therapy, and a mentorship program for other inmates.
Prosecutors Prove Allegations
Combs has been behind bars since September 2024 when he was initially arrested. He was accused of interstate transport for sex, hosting “freak-offs” where he used his power to fly male sex workers around the country to perform in hotel rooms, and physical and emotional abuse of his victims.
His intense trial ended in a split decision between a 12-person jury. While prosecutors proved that Combs abused his power and status to force his victims to engage in multi-day, drug-fueled sexual encounters, and showed photographic evidence of the violence he inflicted on his victims, the jury acquitted him on the most serious charges.
Combs was acquitted on two counts of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, and he has maintained his innocence against the domestic violence accusations from his former girlfriends, including Cassie Ventura Fine.
The rapper and businessman’s attorneys are figuring out how to overturn his conviction, and he has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct. However, if his conviction is overturned, he will still be facing around 70 civil lawsuits that stretch across the nation.
Miami Home Raid
Combs remains productive and with power while in prison. He sold one of his Miami homes for $55 million at the beginning of July. The same home that sits next to his other Miami residence that federal agents raided in March 2024.
According to unsealed court documents, authorities seized more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant from the home, in addition to “various Freak Off supplies, including narcotics.”
“During Freak Offs, Combs distributed a variety of controlled substances to victims, in part to keep the victims obedient and compliant,” a federal indictment read. “Sometimes unbeknownst to the victims, Combs kept videos he filmed of victims engaging in sex acts with commercial sex workers.”
