Spider-Man, Marvel, Suits

Sometimes, what makes or breaks a Spider-Man movie is the suit he wears. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has tremendous flaws, but it is held afloat by, among other things, a ridiculously good suit. The suits are rarely bad, too, which is not true of most other long-running superhero franchises.

For the purposes of this article, we’re not really going to include suits like the inside-out suit from No Way Home or any of the three homemade suits that all the Spider-Men have worn at the beginning of their runs. Here are all the main ones, graded.

Scoring the Different Suits Spider-Man Has Worn

Night Monkey

So far, the Night Monkey suit from Far From Home is the only MCU black suit we’ve gotten, but that still doesn’t make it a great suit. It’s fun for some stealth and some identity protection, but nothing about it screams Spider-Man. Leaving the fingers uncovered is also not the best choice for this suit.

Grade: 6/10

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Suit

Tobey Maguire’s suit that he wore throughout all three of his movies is iconic and nostalgic, but that doesn’t make it a good design. It features a harsh and angular look. The lines are sharp, and the textured webbing comes off a little more villainous than was intended. It just isn’t very heroic, and if someone ran into this version of the character, they might initially wonder if he’s a hero or a villain.

Grade: 6.5/10

The Amazing Spider-Man Main Suit

Andrew Garfield’s first suit has an undeniable charm, but it also has some major flaws. The eyes are too orange. The texture is a little too strong, making it look coarse and uncomfortable. His spider symbol and the blue accents are really nice, though.

Grade: 7/10

Far From Home Primary Suit

Black is typically not the accent color for Spider-Man suits, but it works really well here for Tom Holland’s version. In Far From Home, Peter is not in New York, so a different take on the suit works thematically, but the red and black just go really well together, even if it is otherwise a very simple take.

Score: 7.5/10

Iron Spider

The Iron Spider is an iconic suit, and it was really amazing to see Peter Parker get to use all the gadgets and cool technological capabilities this suit had in Infinity War, Endgame, and briefly in Far From Home. It’s a solid suit, but the nanotechnology doesn’t work as well as a real, fabric suit does.

Score: 7.5/10

Captain America: Civil War and Homecoming Suit

Tom Holland’s debut in the MCU was done in the classic, simple red-and-blue suit. There’s nothing too fancy about this suit, but it does incorporate some black accents with the blues that help it stand out from some other suits the webhead has donned over the years. Plus, the debut of the tiny spider symbol on his chest is nice. While the Homecoming version looks better because it’s practical and not CGI, it’s canonically the same exact suit.

Grade: 8/10

No Way Home Integrated Suit

No Way Home features a lot of different suits, but the best one for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is the Integrated Suit. It integrates the nanotechnology with Peter’s actual suit, and the result is quite good. It is one of the most unique suits yet, and the gold accent lines go well with the red and black combination.

Symbiote Suit from Spider-Man 3

All of the criticisms mentioned above for Tobey Maguire’s suit are wonderful aspects of the black symbiote suit he wears in the conclusion to Sam Raimi’s trilogy. Yes, it is still harsh and angular, but that works so well with an angsty, corroding version of Spider-Man. Plus, it’s the only symbiote suit yet, and it remains incredibly iconic.

Score: 9.5/10

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

To quote Homelander, it was perfect. Perfect. Down to the last minute detail. He must’ve been thinking about Andrew Garfield’s second outing and the suit he wore. It remains incredible to see, helping elevate a movie with more than enough holes to sink a boat. The red pops, and the shade of blue is the perfect complement. The spider symbol is again excellent, and the massive eyes on the mask are just the cherry on top.

Grade: 10/10

Brand New Day

You could argue either way for the Brand New Day suit or The Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit. They’re both perfect. Tom Holland’s latest suit is much like Garfield’s last, with bright red and a wonderful accompanying blue. The mask is excellent, and the way it looks textured and real on-screen helps to add to this suit’s immense quality.
