Republican Lauren Boebert's Son Arrested on Felony Charges

Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colorado, son was arrested on Sunday and charged with five felony counts of sexual exploitation of a child. Tyler Boebert, 21, has had multiple run-ins with the law, but despite his criminal history, his mother still believes in him and said so in a statement on Monday.

Sexual Exploitation Charges

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said that Tyler Boebert was taken into custody on Sunday and slapped with a $10,000 bond, but was bailed out shortly afterward. He is ordered to appear before Judge Jill McConaughy in Garfield County on August 19, 2026.

Authorities say that this arrest and charges come over two years after the alleged incident on January 1, 2024.

He is charged with five felony counts, including sexual exploitation of a child with enticement, sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child sexual abuse material with the intent to distribute, sexual exploitation of a child with video, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Arrest Affidavit

According to an affidavit in support of the arrest, the incident stems from a 2024 video Tyler Boebert allegedly recorded with a 17-year-old when he was 18 at the time, showing the two having sex. The girl’s mother reported to authorities that the video had been uploaded to Instagram.

The arrest affidavit explains that the investigation began with a Safe2Tell report showing videos of teens having sex with one another were being posted to a newly created Instagram account. The case possesses 16 videos and images at this time, and many of them constitute “child sexual abuse material.”

Among the video and photo collection is the one where Tyler Boebert is having sex with a teenage girl 11-months younger. He is accused of producing, possessing, and distributing the material. Tyler “caused, induced and enticed a child to be used in explicit sexual conduct for the making of sexually exploitative material,” the affidavit says.

Tyler Boebert did not make a statement to the public, and it is unclear if he has an attorney to do so on his behalf. However, his mother is used to making statements for her son at this point. “I love my son,” Lauren Boebert said on Monday. “We take allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.”

Previous Arrests

In February 2024, Tyler Boebert was arrested after police had a “recent string of vehicle trespass and property thefts.” He was facing several felony counts of criminal possession of identification documents, conspiracy to commit a felony, and 15 other misdemeanor and petty offenses.

He pleaded guilty to a felony for attempting to commit identity theft. He was given a deferred sentence, community service, and probation, but in 2025, a complaint for probation revocation was filed. He is scheduled for further sentencing on September 10, 2026.

Lauren Boebert made a statement on behalf of her son following his arrest in 2024, and explained he had been facing “difficult, public challenges,” and was the center of unwanted attention.

“I love my son Tyler, who has been through some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn’t ask for,” she said. “It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track.“

“I will never give up on him, and I will continue to be there for him,” she added. “As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.”

Child Neglect Incident

In July 2025, Tyler was issued a citation for misdemeanor child abuse negligence no injury in connection with an incident with his young son. He pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on September 4, 2026.
