Avengers: Doomsday, Doctor Doom

As of now, we have very little in the way of an actual plot for Avengers: Doomsday. We know that Doctor Doom presents a major threat to the multiverse, and we have picked up on clues from the comics and the two trailers to put together what might be happening.

The official synopsis doesn’t provide much actual meat. “Heroes from three different worlds must unite when they’re thrust together to confront a catastrophic danger that could destroy everything they know,” it reads. But what is actually going to happen?

Well, a particular line from the latest trailer has the internet abuzz, and it is likely the most accurate hint at the plot of Doomsday yet.

Doctor Doom’s “Stolen Lives” Line is Probably the Whole Plot of Avengers: Doomsday

In the second trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom says, “All of you have lived stolen lives. Now, you must give them back.” This single line, besides providing an incredibly chilling presence for our villain, may hold the key to the entire plot. Doom appears to be operating as an intergalactic debt collector.

In this case, the villain is right once again. The Avengers and X-Men have lived stolen lives. Almost every single one of them has cheated death and messed with time to give themselves second chances or more. Doom appears ready to come collect the debt and restore order.

The Avengers are obviously the biggest culprits of this. In Endgame, the time heist restores half of the world, but it also saved Spider-Man, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Doctor Strange, Yelena Belova’s Black Widow, Star-Lord, Drax, Nick Fury, and others who have gone on to live after it was their fate to die in the snap.

That created a whole mess of problems, including Loki’s stolen life. He is actually a variant, but by escaping with the Tesseract in the events of the first Avengers movie, he stole his life as well and has gone on to be the most important figure, literally holding the multiverses together. That sounds like something Doom is not interested in.

The X-Men aren’t innocent, either, though. In Days of Future Past, they averted a future that literally led to mutant extinction by sending Wolverine back in time to stop the Sentinels from being made to hunt them down. Since Doom seems to control Sentinels in Avengers: Doomsday, that is certainly something Victor von Doom is unhappy about. The events of Deadpool & Wolverine likely tie in as well.

Steve Rogers going back in time to live the life he wasn’t meant to is literally a stolen life. He was meant to be frozen, thawed, and then live out his life, but he went back in time and stayed there, stealing the years that were lost to ice. It’s harsh, but Doctor Doom almost certainly doesn’t approve.

And, if we want to get technical, Thor’s daughter, Love, also stole her life since they convinced Gorr the God Butcher to use his wish at Eternity to save Love. Sue Storm was dead and revived by Franklin, which certainly fits the bill and ties into the Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits scene. Billy and Tommy Maximoff were created in the hex, and so that could also apply in Doctor Doom’s mind.

Put simply, Doom appears here to rectify all the shenanigans that have gone on in the Marvel universe. With the other theory that the universes are experiencing dire incursions, it could be suggested that Doom is a hero in this story, saving the multiverse from itself. Either way, this theory has some weight behind it, and it could make for a fascinating movie.
