The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have solved one of their question marks entering the 2026 NFL season. With rumors surrounding their quarterback Baker Mayfield’s future in Tampa, with him entering the last year of his contract. The franchise quarterback’s comments about his contract left some fans shaking in their boots, but with his new deal, everyone’s happy.
Buccaneers Extend Mayfield
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to a contract extension with Mayfield to a 3-year, $165 million deal. He signed a three-year, $ 100 million deal when he first joined the team back in 2023. That was such a bargain for an above-average quarterback in the NFL. It was essentially a “prove-it” deal coming off his tenure with the Browns and Panthers.
Mayfield did more than prove it with the Buccaneers. In those three years, he’s made the Pro Bowl twice and was in the MVP race last season before getting hurt. Now the jump from $33 million to $55 million is a sizable jump, but that is the going rate for quarterbacks these days. The only two who are getting paid more than him are Dak Prescott and Patrick Mahomes at $60 million and $64 million.
Final Thoughts
I thought this was the exact contract the Bucs needed to cough up for Baker. It’s the largest contract the Glazer family has given out in franchise history, and he has earned every penny of that contract.
