For a team that appeared to have a great start to the season, things changed for the Giants as quickly as the sun rose. In the first quarter of their 28-6 loss Monday Night against the Los Angeles Rams, second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury and had to leave the game. This afternoon it was announced that he will be having season-ending surgery.
Dart’s Injury

After the initial update on the injury suggested that Dart would return for the Blue and White this season, further testing showed that the damage was more serious. The injury was to his meniscus, but he also suffered damage to his MCL and PCL. With all that damage to his left knee, it should be better in the long term to get it taken care of now instead of risking further injury.
Positives for the Giants
Despite the consideration of trimming his meniscus in order to get back on the field, which was viewed as putting a band-aid on the bigger problem, I believe this will be for the best. Does it suck to have your starting QB out for the year? Yes, but when he plays as recklessly as Dart does, maybe this will make him more aware and play more cautiously for the Giants.
Final Thoughts
I was impressed by how Dart looked in the Giants’ Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys and thought they might have more success than I thought. Now, with Jameis Winston under center, we have no idea how this is going to look for New York. On the bright side, their season won’t get difficult until later in the year. Maybe Winston can get his feet under him, and they will be more competitive than we assume post-Dart injury.
