A group of twelve teenagers was injured in a shooting at a Georgia park just after 12 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The teens had gathered to celebrate a birthday Saturday evening, but it ended with cops being called just as the day switched.
Shooting at Georgia Park
Deputies responded to a report of a shooting at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon, Georgia, at 12:06 a.m. Sunday. There were multiple reports of gunfire at the skatepark area, according to Bibb County Sheriff David Davis.
The incident occurred after a second group arrived across the street, with the first birthday group at the park. Authorities say that they exchanged words, showed their firearms, and then opened fire at one another. While en route to the shooting, deputies were given a heads-up that multiple victims had already made it to the hospital using private vehicles.
Injured Victims Receive Care
A total of 12 people were injured, including a 19-year-old male, four 18-year-old males, five 17-year-old males, and two 18-year-old females. Two of the victims were in critical but stable condition, and the other victims were reportedly in stable condition.
The emergency room went into lockdown after a large number of vehicles arrived at the local Georgia hospital. The sheriff’s office said they were only relatives and friends of the victims, but that there were too many to contain, and the medical professionals still had a job to do without the stampede of loved ones.
Ongoing Investigation
Georgia officers obtained seven vehicles and sent them to the crime lab as part of the aggravated assault investigation. Four of those vehicles transported some of the victims to the hospital, and the other three were abandoned at the park after the shooting.
Investigators have interviewed 10 witnesses thus far in connection with the ongoing criminal investigation, but no arrests have been made. “More details will be released as they become available,” Bibb County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said.
Sheriff Davis noted during a press conference held on Sunday that several of the victims were students at Central High School and Northeast High School, adding that he “can’t remember the last time we’ve had this many people shot at one time.” He also mentioned that the party was for one of the 18-year-old female victims.
The group originally rented an Airbnb in Jones County, Georgia, to celebrate the teen’s birthday but the property owner “became concerned with some of the activities that were going on at the party” and told them to leave. After exiting the rental unit, they met up at Carolyn Crayton Park to keep the party going.
Local Crime Only
The FBI is assisting the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office in the ongoing investigation, but it is believed to be a local shooting and not a part of something bigger. Macon, Georgia, appears nice on the outside, but is ridden with crime, especially gun violence.
The highest concentration of violent attacks and shootings occurs in West Macon and South Macon neighborhoods. There were a total of six shootings reported in the area in just the first nine days of 2026 and another wave of shootings over a weekend at the end of February.
Thus far in the new year, there have been thousands of recorded gun violence incidents, including 345 mass shootings. The country is on track to surpass last year’s number of mass shootings, which sits at 408, but hopefully, it will not come to that.
