The WWE Universe has been “yeeting” ever since the Royal Rumble. Jey Uso has taken the world by storm and is one of the most popular superstars on the entire roster. The combination of the entrance, the catchphrase, the promos, and the in-ring work has gotten Jey over.
Even though he is technically not main eventing, “Main Event” Jey Uso has a chance to capture the World Heavyweight Championship as he takes on Gunther. Gunther, on the other hand, is trying to avoid last year’s WrestleMania fait, where he lost his Intercontinental Championship to Sami Zayn.
Jey Uso’s Road to WrestleMania 41
A few years ago, if you had said that one of the Uso’s would have a World Heavyweight Championship opportunity, fans would have looked at you like you were crazy. They would also probably not be able to tell the twins apart. “Main Event” Jey Uso has separated himself from the tag team persona he had for all those years.
Despite the controversy from the Internet wrestling community, I loved the decision to have Jey win the Royal Rumble. The match is a fan favorite and, at times, has become way too predictable. This kind of match is one where skill doesn’t matter. It is more based on “luck of the draw.” It’s about time WWE Creative had a somewhat surprising winner.Jey made the decision to challenge the “Ring General” Gunther for his title opportunity.
Gunther is currently 3-0 against the “yeeter” and looks to stay undefeated. The “Ring General” has been a dominant force since arriving on the main roster scene. His record-setting reign as Intercontinental Champion and current World Heavyweight Championship run has placed Gunther with a title for 80 percent of his time on the main roster. That is an amazing achievement and shouldn’t go unnoticed! Recently, he has proved how dangerous he can be as he was covered with Jey’s brother Jimmy’s blood after beating the holy hell out of him.
Will Jey Uso Have the Ultimate WM Moment?
The answer may surprise you. At WrestleMania 41, Gunther once again defeated Jey Uso for the 4th time. This should be a physical match with a bunch of false finishes. I think Gunther will win this match because the “Ring General” lost his title last year on the grandest stage of them all. He is currently 1-1 at Mania, winning a triple threat match with Drew McIntyre and Sheamus. Then he retained his Intercontinental Championship at 39, and lost that title a year later.
For someone who has been so dominant in, let’s call the “regular season,” it doesn’t make sense for him to lose his title at the “Super Bowl.” The only exception would be if they decided to create that angle so that he doesn’t show up in the “big game.” But even saying it out loud doesn’t make sense.
Jey Uso would carry the title well. This is one of the harder matches to call for this weekend. It does seem like a “boyhood dream” type scenario for Uso. If they do decide to put the title on Jey, they should do it at the next PLE, Backlash. Not every major moment needs to happen at WrestleMania. Make other PLE’s relevant by sharing the big moments.
Final Thoughts
Again, love the fact that Jey Uso won the Royal Rumble! Will they actually have Gunther lose two WrestleManias in a row, dropping titles in both? I don’t think so. Jey’s time will come, but if he doesn’t win it at either Mania or Backlash, does he get pushed back down the card? That’s the danger WWE Creative faces in having one of their most popular superstars get buried again. Sometimes, you have to hit while the iron is hot; other times, you have to make the people wait. This is a scenario where damage could be done regardless of the outcome. YEET!
