Just last week, there was a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase. This allowed third-party games that were coming to Switch to get a full look. Nintendo’s first-party titles always drive the headlines and get the most attention, but there are always good third-party titles available, too. With the Switch 2’s increased power, the capacity for more big third-party titles only grows.
Even with that Showcase happening on July 31, which is less than a week ago at this point, the gaming company is back with another showcase this week. This time, it’s still not going to be first-party titles. Instead, indie games are going to get the spotlight.
Nintendo Confirms Second Showcase in About a Week
Just one week after the most recent Nintendo Showcase, another one will be live-streamed. Last week, they had 25 minutes of third-party titles like Monster Hunter Stories, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Octopath Traveler 0, Madden 26, EA FC 26, Persona 3 Reload, Cronos: The New Dawn, and more. This week, they’ll have 15 minutes of indie games coming to their two consoles.
You can tun in at 9:00 am ET on August 7 for the stream. It’ll be a short one, but there’s a chance the biggest indie game of the year is revealed. Hollow Knight: Silksong is coming in 2025. How do we know this? Because of the Nintendo Switch 2 Showcase. It briefly showed off the game with a 2025 tag, but we have otherwise seen nothing. Hollow Knight is kind of the king of indie games, which makes this a perfect opportunity to finally cement the actual release date.
Witchbrook, Hades 2, Vampire Survivors, and others might get some attention here, too. There would’ve been some unfortunate competition between third-party games and Silksong especially, so it makes sense that the company split the showcases into two. Plus, only the first-party or major Directs get 40 minutes.
The gaming world has been waiting for Silksong in particular for a very long time. It was absolutely stunning that Nintendo said nothing about it in last month’s stream, especially with just five more months left to honor that aforementioned 2025 timeframe. Given the fact that the gaming company got to confirm the 2025 release of Silksong, it would make sense for them to reveal even more when the opportunity arises. It seems like it will on August 7.
Some great indie games have come to Switch before, so fans shouldn’t dismiss this showcase since it won’t feature Metroid Prime 4, the next Mario game, a Legend of Zelda remake, or DLC for Mario Kart World. Stardew Valley, Hades, Celeste, Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight, and Undertale are some of the best indie games out there, and they were on the original Switch, so the capacity for really good games is high.
We still don’t know when they will reveal the next legitimate Direct with first-party titles. We know Metroid Prime 4 is supposedly coming soon. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is coming in October. Otherwise, there’s very little planned as far as first-party titles come for the immediate future of the Switch 2. For now, that’s going to remain the case for the foreseeable future.
Conclusion
The next significant batch of video games headed to the Switch 2 (and the Switch 1), albeit not the most popular batch perhaps, is going to be announced very soon. There is a possibility that some of them get shadow launched that day, which is always a surprise but something Nintendo has done time and again. They did it at the last Partner Showcase, so anything is possible this week.
