Helldivers 2 X ODST

This morning, Halo: ODST and Helldivers 2 fans woke up to the best surprise there could be. Helldivers 2 will be having a collab with Halo 3: ODST. It was teased earlier this week with a trailer from Helldivers with a familiar scene and BGM from Halo 3: ODST. While speculations were high along with hopes, it looks like it wasn’t all lost. Let’s take a look at what is coming from these collaborations.

Helldivers and ODSTs

Now, this comes as both a surprise and an expectation. It’s expected because with the Helldivers being, well, Helldivers, people wanted to see ODST come to the game since they are Helldivers themselves. Now, if you don’t know who or what ODSTs (Orbital Drop Shock Troopers) are, here are some details:

The ODSTs are drop-pod troopers from the Halo Series. They are known as Helldivers as they go on suicide missions meant for the best of the best. They are suited for infiltrating enemy lines and stealth-based missions. But they are just as superior when things hit the fan. They are deployed for high-stakes missions and are battle-hardened, and trained such that, it has them rivaling even the Spartans of their universe. While they aren’t meant to make it back alive, they do.

I say surprising because this is a Sony game. To see that an Xbox game is coming to a Sony will have a lot of people saying the Console Wars are over. Which, if you’re still rooting for a side, like come on, guys. But it’s surprising nonetheless, cause neither Sony nor Xbox had to do the collab (although it would be a MAJOR disappointment for everyone, myself included.) So even though it’s a surprise, it’s a VERY welcome one. Now, let’s get into the good stuff coming in Helldivers 2.

Premium Warbond

There is a lot of juicy stuff coming in the Legendary Warbond. We see the signature ODST armor and the Recon Armor. This might be a nod towards Veronica Dare from the ODST series, as she was wearing an ODST-Issued Recon Armor that was issued to her as a Field Specialist. But then again, it’s also a part of ONI to send out ODST-Issued Recon Armor for those specializing in Field and Stealth Intelligence.

We then see the Halo Assault Rifle, MA5C. A standard issue Full Auto Rifle for all on the combat field. Next is the M7S, a specialized Submachine Gun made for the ODST’s stealth missions. The M6GA Shotgun, a shotgun meant to blow apart whatever is in your face. The M6C/SOCOM, the sidearm, is another weapon that is part of the ODST arsenal. You shouldn’t leave the drop pod without it.

After the weapons, we see skins for the vehicles in-game, and an armor passive called Feet First. This passive provides Helldivers with less noise when moving, becomes immune to leg injuries, and increases the range of discovering points of interest by 30%. This is a perfect passive for an ODST. Then we have player banners, capes, and a title called the Rookie, which is a callback to Halo 3: ODST, as the main character there was called the Rookie.

As a fellow Halo fan, especially an ODST fan, I am excited for this collab. While it’s been a long while since I have played Helldivers 2, I am ecstatic to redownload the game and prepare for August 26th, when the collab drops for everyone. I can only hope the guns prove to be useful and not just something to hang on the wall as a representation of this collaboration.
