Cult of the Lamb is a roguelike video game all the way back from 2022. It feels like a lifetime ago since we received any updates, as the last one was to introduce local co-op to the game with Unholy Alliance. In the game, you are tasked with leading a cult of followers for The One Who Waits. You manage tasks and resources all the while going out to slay the Old Faith who have sealed The One Who Waits.

Cult of the Lamb Woolhaven

So, Massive Monster is releasing a major DLC for Cult of the Lamb called Woolhaven. This will be a paid DLC, which they have said will provide more to look forward to than any of their previous DLCs. Which is right, this would be an Expansion in its own right as it brings a lot of new stuff. Here are a few key details about the DLC direct from the Steam Store webpage.:

• Return the lost souls of Woolhaven to their spiritual home and learn the long-forgotten history of lambkind. Rebuild the fallen town to its former glory and reclaim the mountain to restore the depleted power of Yngya, the forgotten God of the lambs. But beware: there is always a price to be paid.
• Endure harsh weather, including blizzards and freezing temperatures, that threaten your Cult’s survival.
• Build new structures to keep your loyal followers warm and protect them from frostbite and famine.
• Unlock ranching at your Cult base and breed rare animals that provide wool, warmth, and, when times are particularly desperate, precious meat. Tame, ride, and let your followers take care of these majestic creatures.
• Venture into a new realm battered by bitter storms, crawling with creatures corrupted with the Rot lurking beneath the snow. Battle through two vast new dungeons, where the echoes of the past refuse to rest.

This trailer has already gotten me excited for it. It shows the Lamb traveling up a mountain with a necklace leading it to the statue above. Once touched, it takes them into another trance, like how the Old Faith and The One Who Waits would normally do. Easily, it’s of its own power, maybe another god, but the details tell us how we learn about lambkind here. We will rebuild a fallen town to its former glory. At the beginning of Cult of the Lamb, we are told that the old gods have taken every lamb and slaughtered them to prevent The One Who Waits from returning.

We might be heading to the literal heart of the world so that we can establish what the Old Faith took from us. In the trailer, after the Lamb interacts with the skull, triggering a reaction, we see three other lambs come behind them. While it’s only speculation, we could probably see 4-player co-op coming to the game. They introduced local co-op in Unholy Alliance and introduced the second player as a form of another Lamb pulling it through a puddle into another world.

While we see no such transition, it would be no surprise to see 4-player co-op come to Cult of the Lamb Woolhaven. I just would like to see more replayability if that’s the case, like an endless mode that gets harder or something of the sort. Back to the trailer, it then shows off key gameplay with the new area, new animals, and even the Lamb riding a buffalo/bison. As well as new decoration items and possibly new facilities.

Then it splits to dungeon play as we see the Lamb using a new flail-like weapon, crushing their enemies. We are introduced to a new NPC named Marchosias, who may or may not be an enemy. It looks to be in a room, as we would find the Merchaint siblings on runs. After a few clips of the bosses on the runs, it ends with a ritual that uses the spirits and totems, possibly collected on runs.

Unfortunately, the expansion won’t be coming until early 2026, which is a while before it lands in our respective stores. But if you have never enjoyed Cult of the Lamb, now would be a good time to get into it, as it’s highly praised.
