Just one year after Black Ops 6 helped revive the franchise, Call of Duty is back with Black Ops 7 this November. Always a yearly release, this is the first time a Black Ops game has directly followed another without a Modern Warfare or something else in between. Zombies is the big draw for the Black Ops line, which may be why they’re changing things up.
Either way, brand-new zombies, and not just new maps, is coming this November in BO7. They’ve already begun teasing some new things, including a lengthy trailer for the first map. Now, a leak has surfaced indicating that they’re going to go back to the basics.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to Undo Major Issue with Black Ops 6

For all the really good things Black Ops 6 was able to do, especially with zombies, there were some missteps. They changed the formula a fair amount, introducing a lot of changes to the core gameplay that went against what Black Ops, Black Ops II, and Black Ops III had done so well. This includes starting weapon classes and armor, two things that are going away with a “classic mode.”
According to renowned leaker Hope, there will be another classic mode along with the regular mode that will presumably keep most of the Black Ops 6 features in Black Ops 7. The gameplay isn’t going to change, there will just be a mode that allows players to play like the game used to be. There’s not going to be a minimap that you can open, just like the olden days.
More Changes
Additionally, there will be no unlimited perks. Players in BO6 could get as many perks as they want, but in the classic games, the limit was four. This meant players had to be pointed in their choices, and they had to be careful when getting them. Exfil, which is essentially a way to escape and the mode before you die, is also being removed since that wasn’t possible in the classic series.
The point system will be as normal as well, and there will be no starting classes. Instead, Black Ops 7 players will go back to using the starting pistol and having to hut the mystery box or wall weapons just to get a decent gun. The inclusion of starting classes and the ability to upgrade the rarity was a big change that not everyone liked in Black Ops 6.
With that in mind, we can also safely assume that this leaked classic mode, which is called “Cursed,” will get rid of weapon rarities and salvage. This meant that you could get an uncommon weapon and take it up to Legendary, which removes some of the luck and RNG from the mode. There’s nothing quite like desperately hitting the box, and that was not present in Black Ops 6 zombies. Armor, one of the things that made Black Ops 6 so much easier, is also going away.
What isn’t stated in this leak is that this all makes a Zombies Chronicles 2 much more feasible. The difference in gameplay mechanics made it hard to imagine, but since they can clearly implement both mechanical styles into one game, they can absolutely remaster old maps like Buried, IX, Mob of the Dead, Der Eisandrache, and more to bring them to a modern audience. Just remember that this is a leak, so it’s not confirmed, but it sure looks like BO7 is starting off on the right foot.
Final Round
It’s still a little weird that Call of Duty has already given up on Black Ops 6 as a zombies game, but these changes indicate that it might be for the better. That, as well as the trailer for the new map, makes it seem like this might be yet another step in the right direction for the best mode in Call of Duty history.
