Rhea Seehorn is currently the most notable star in Vince Gilligan’s latest show, Pluribus. The streaming show airs weekly on Apple TV+. Seehorn got propelled into the public eye after her brilliant turn as Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul, Gilligan’s spin-off series from his original hit, Breaking Bad. But if Seehorn has her way, other famous actors will join the show’s cast, and it’ll be one of the longest shows in the streaming era.
Rhea Seehorn Wants 10 Seasons and More Stars for Pluribus
For now, Pluribus is just one season. Vince Gilligan is currently working on the renewed second season, but beyond that, the future is totally up in the air. The showrunner has said that he can envision it going for four or five seasons, which is nothing compared to what star Rhea Seehorn wants.
She said she doesn’t know when she will start filming for any subsequent seasons, but she wishes she did. “I hope it’s like 10 seasons,” Seehorn said to Variety. “Whatever I can force Vince [Gilligan] to do. I know they’re in the writer’s room now, writing Season 2.”
Seehorn added that she doesn’t know “one tiny detail” about what’s to come. As for guest stars in future episodes or seasons, perhaps similar to John Cena’s hilarious cameo as a hive-mind inhabited version of himself, Seehorn said, “Everybody… I’m nominated with [for a Golden Globe], and I guess just so I can force them to be friends with me, Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley.“
The actress has earned a Golden Globe nomination for her work as Carol Sturka, and she’s up against Kathy Bates (Matlock), Britt Lower (Severance), Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), Helen Mirren (Mobland), and Keri Russell (The Diplomat).
If those actresses, or Colman/Buckley, show up in a future season of Pluribus, it’ll be because Seehorn pulled some strings. It will be interesting to see if she lands a win for her work here. Right now, she stands a pretty good chance, although Lower appears to be the frontrunner.
If she did win (she has the show’s only nomination), it would give Pluribus a huge accomplishment. While the Globes and the Emmys are not the same, Better Call Saul famously had 53 Emmy nominations and did not take home a single victory. That’s the most ever. Additionally, Better Call Saul went 0/9 on Globe nominations as well, so this would be a return to award-winning form.
Many have, as of late, criticized Pluribus for moving too slowly and now letting things happen in the last few episodes, but Seehorn’s work has been consistently praised throughout. And regardless of the speed of pacing, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were notoriously slow at the start and turned out to be two of the best television series of all time.
Gilligan knows how to craft a story, and while his third attempt might turn some viewers off, those who stick around for the duration of the show will likely be rewarded. Both his previous shows had impeccable finales and impressive final seasons. Patience is often rewarded, although not so much in the instant gratification world of the streaming era.
