The Detroit Pistons have built on their success last season and have gotten off to an outstanding start. They currently lead the Eastern Conference with a 29-10 record. Tonight, Detroit hosted the Phoenix Suns without Devin Booker. Despite a back-and-forth affair, the Pistons came out on top. Let’s dive into their win.
Pistons Win Despite Star’s Struggles
Despite missing their best player, the Phoenix Suns were dominating the early parts of this game. With a 50-34 lead in the second quarter, it appeared that tonight wasn’t Cade Cunningham or Detroit’s night. When you have the youth and will to win as they do, no deficit is too much.
They would go on a 17-5 run in the second quarter to cut the lead, then a 19-5 run in the 3rd quarter to take the lead. Tonight was one of Cunningham’s worst performances of the season. He shot 3/16, 0/7 from downtown, and had five turnovers. Despite that, he still found ways to affect the game with 11 dimes.
I was Jalen Duren, who stepped up when their star was struggling. He finished with 16 points, 18 rebounds, 2 blocks, and was a + 23 when he was on the floor. He was on the rise for the past two seasons when it comes to a true center. He reminds me of a lesser version of Dwight Howard in his prime—an athletic big man who can run the floor and dominate the game on the glass.
Final Thoughts
