Matt LaFleur, Green Bay Packers, NFL

The Green Bay Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur have agreed to a multi-year contract extension. This comes after a heartbreaking playoff loss to the Chicago Bears, where they blew an 18-point lead. Let’s dive into the extension and share our thoughts on the Packers’ decision to extend their head coach.

Packers Extend Matt LaFleur

With Green Bay extending LaFleur to a long-term deal, it continues the stability that they have had with their head coach since 2019. He’s posted a 76-40-1 record, ranking 7th among active head coaches. This upcoming season was his last year on his initial four-year $20 million contract. His teams have had minimal postseason success in the post-Aaron Rodgers era.

What Does It Mean for Green Bay?

Jordan Love‘s growth has been linked to their head coach and his wizardry of an offensive mind. You continue to pair these two together in hopes of reaching the heights this team had in their first two seasons under LaFleur. Now, they haven’t won a playoff game since knocking off the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round back in 2023. However, they appeared to be one of the best teams in the NFL until Micah Parsons went down with a season-ending injury.

Final Thoughts

This is a good extension. One of the worst things you can do as a franchise in the NFL is unpair a match made in heaven. My only concern was blowing an 18-point playoff lead. When you dominate a game through two and a half quarters and lose, that’s almost a fireable offense. Where do you rank LaFleur amongst the head coaches in the NFL?
