It seems as if the New England Patriots are sweeping the awards tonight. Earlier, their offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, won the AP Assistant Coach of the Year award, and their Head Coach, Mike Vrabel, won the AP Coach of the Year award. The NFL Honors are red, white, and blue all over. Let’s dive into this accomplishment!
Patriots’ Vrabel Wins COTY
The New England Patriots’ head coach, Mike Vrabel, is one of the crowning achievements of an outstanding season. When he took over New England, they were a four-win team with a second-year quarterback and appeared to be at the beginning of a long rebuild. Look how fast things can change when you get the head coach right. Going from last in the AFC East to a 14-win juggernaut and contending for a Super Bowl is one of the best one-year turnarounds in sports history!
Reaction
I believed this was a two-man race. Either Vrabel or the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach, Liam Coen, deserved the award. When you have the Buffalo Bills in your division, your hands are already tied behind your back. They dominated the season in ways even their fans didn’t see coming. Seems like yesterday they were in this position. A dominant head coach and a top-tier quarterback.
Final Thoughts
As a Steelers fan, the Pats didn’t suffer long enough, haha. They had one year of being bad, then flipped the switch and are back in the big game. Do you think the voters got the award right? Do you think it should have gone to Liam Coen? Lastly, who wins Super Bowl 60?
