The Washington Wizards have signed their point guard of the future. After acquiring Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline, the Wizards are beginning to build a team to contend in the Eastern Conference. Let’s dive into what this means for Washington.
Wizards Sign Young

The Washington Wizards traded for the four-time All-Star at the trade deadline for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. A trade that had fans in The District hopeful for where their franchise was heading for the future. Young played only 15 total games last season, five for the Wizards, as he was dealing with hand and quad injuries.
In those five games he played in Washington, Young averaged 15 ppg and 6 apg on only 21 minutes per game. The lack of jaw-dropping numbers is purely due to his lack of availability last season. I will not be surprised when we see Ice Trae return to his normal self, dropping 20 & 10 alongside Anthony Davis.
Was This an Overpay?
I think this is a great contract for all parties involved. Washington locks up their franchise player for the future to grow with their young, dynamic core, and Trae Young gets a pay raise. I can see how some people question giving him $50+ million, but if you look at what the going rate is for an elite guard in the NBA, it’s a slight discount.
Final Thoughts
As an Atlanta native, I would have loved to see Ice Trae spend his career with the Hawks. However, he has found a new home with the Wizards, and I will always enjoy seeing his success throughout his career. If this is the last stop in his career, I think he will find success. What do you make of the contract? Was this an overpay?
