LeBron James, NBA, Los Angeles Lakers

With LeBron James moving on from the Los Angeles Lakers, there have been many rumors and speculations about where The King will play his 24th season. His agent, Rich Paul, has met with the representatives for 27 NBA teams. With 90% of the teams interested in LeBron, the question remains: who wins the sweepstakes? With so many possibilities, I have narrowed the 27 teams down to just three. Here are my top three landing spots for LeBron James entering his 24th NBA season.

Bron Back to South Beach: Miami Heat

Out of the three teams that I could see LeBron going to in this list, this is the team that I least want him to go to. Would a return to the Miami Heat be fun? Absolutely, however, my concerns with the Heat have nothing to do with their organization, coach, or even GM. My issue is with the roster: throwing together a Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo, and LeBron James “Big Three” in 2026 would not be as good as you might think.

After requiring the two-time MVP, I don’t believe this is a good roster. I didn’t believe this was a solid roster before gutting the team. They don’t have enough shooting. They don’t have enough individual scoring. They would be an elite defensive team and surely contenders in the Eastern Conference. However, if LeBron wants to continue his quest for championship number five, the Heat would be one of the last choices I would make.

LeBron’s Homecoming: Cleveland Cavaliers

It has the potential to be one of the best sports stories of all time. A Hometown hero, leaving to chase championships, returning home to deliver a title, migrating West to make his mark with one of the greatest franchises of all time, then returning home for one last chance to climb the mountain for the team he built. That sounds poetic. This makes sense not only for his comfort but also for basketball.

We know the Cavaliers have an extremely strong, young roster featuring Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jared Allen. What about James Harden? Although he is likely to return to Cleveland, they have not re-signed him. Could that be the team and Harden working out the financials for a possible LeBron reunion? Possibly. This would be a far better landing spot for the four-time MVP than Miami.

Best Chance For Ring #5: Philadelphia 76ers

Here is where it could get really fun. As a LeBron James fan, this is where I want him to go. Disclose your eyes and imagine a starting five of Tyrese Maxey, VJ, Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid. Wow! That would immediately push the Sixers to the top of the mountain, among some of the best teams in the NBA. What would their bench look like?

With the 76ers bringing in Anfernee Simons and Dean Wade, those are two players that you can bring off the bench and can give you solid production when any combination of your elite starting five comes off the floor. If LeBron were to play for the 76ers, that would be his best chance to secure ring number five.

Final thoughts

This has already been one of the more exciting off-seasons in recent NBA memory. There has been so much movement and trades that the 2026–2027 NBA landscape will look completely different. The biggest domino to fall has yet to land, and now we all await LeBron’s decision. Where do you think The King should go?
