Tomorrow is the WWE Royal Rumble. A favorite for the Universe. 30 of your biggest superstars in the wrestling world will be battling for the chance to headline WrestleMania. Fans often forget that although the Royal Rumble punches the ticket for one to the “Grandest Stage of Them All,” other avenues are being created as well.
Storylines also start to unfold for the other superstars who don’t win the match. Often, we look at who eliminates whom, and then months later, we realize the feud started at the Rumble. Here are some storylines we could be looking out for that could culminate at WrestleMania.
Storylines We Could See at the Rumble
AJ Styles Retirement Angle
So we all know that Gunther has become the “Career Killer” of WWE! A great gimmick, and it looks like AJ Styles may be the next victim. The WWE Universe is well aware that Styles’ contract ends in February, and he plans to retire in 2026. How can this play out? Well, we have a solution!
What if the “Phenomenal” one loses to Gunther early in the night? His career with WWE is essentially over. He is then in a backstage segment with Raw General Manager Adam Pierce. Pierce instructs Styles to give back his Royal Rumble ball entry.
Before he can hand the ball back to the GM, a TNA representative appears with a new contract for AJ. The contract guarantees a spot in the 30-man match. He then wins the match, headlines WrestleMania, and finishes his farewell tour as the first “TNA” wrestler to hold the WWE Championship.
Raquel Rodriguez Eliminates Liv Morgan to Win
Is there turmoil within the Judgement Day? The Royal Rumble is every woman for herself, right? Liv Morgan seems to be one of the favorites to win the match. With her and her new bestie, Roxanne Perez, Raquel appears to be the odd woman out. Rodriguez has had her eye on the Raw Women’s Championship and has improved substantially over the past few weeks.
Imagine Raquel, Liv, and one other contender being the last three women in the match. “Big Sexy” could come from behind, eliminating both Morgan and the other superstar, causing a rift between the two. What would be even better would be if Dominik Mysterio gets involved and possibly leaves with Raquel.
The Vision Doing a Nexus Impersonation
Remember years ago when CM Punk was the leader of Nexus? They did everything they could to protect their leader in the Royal Rumble. What if we applied that to today’s WWE? Instead of protecting the “leader” of the group, the Vision destroys all the competition as a whole, a collective unit.
No one could survive the brute force of Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Logan Paul, and Austin Theory. So if they could run wild until there are four left, with Paul Heyman conducting traffic, it would be a great time for Seth Rollins to come back and get some revenge.
Roman Reigns Sets Up His WrestleMania Opponent
This time around, the “Tribal Chief” wouldn’t get booed out of the building with a “F you, Roman” chant. The WWE Universe would embrace the “OTC” if Reigns were able to outlast 29 other superstars. I really don’t see this happening, but I do think it will be pretty clear who Roman will fight at WrestleMania.
Reigns will most likely eliminate the guy he will be facing off against at the biggest show of the year. My guess is that he will be the one to eliminate the “Bad Ass” Bron Breakker. It just makes sense. “Heyman Guy” vs “Ex-Heyman Guy.” Breakker is believed to be next in line. Why not pair him up against the longest reigning champion in modern history?
