The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles to honor the best in television and streaming from the past year. Mariska Hargitay, a four-time Emmy winner from “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” was the first woman to host the award show in 15 years.

History was made as Matthew Rhys became the first actor to win two Emmy Awards for leading actor in the same night for his roles in comedy series “Widow’s Bay” and limited series “The Beast in Me.” Apple TV’s supernatural comedy Widow’s Bay won 14 Emmys. The dark comedy DTF St. Louis followed with seven, while The Pitt and Pluribus each won six. The already-canceled Spider-Noir placed fifth with five Emmys.

Michael J. Fox was awarded the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his contributions to Parkinson’s research and advocacy for those affected by the disease. Tributes were paid to Dolly Parton, Catherine O’Hara, Rob Reiner, who posthumously won an Emmy last week for his guest role in “The Bear” as well as several other television industry professionals in the Emmys In Memoriam segment.
